
After You Just Had Braces: What to Expect & What to Do

1. Soreness and Discomfort
- It’s normal to feel soreness or pressure in your teeth and gums for the first few days.
​ - Use orthodontic wax on brackets that are causing irritation.

2. Eating and Drinking
- Stick to soft foods for the first few days.
- Avoid hard or chewy foods to prevent the brackets from becoming loose, and avoid sugary foods to prevent decay around the brackets.

3. Oral Hygiene
- Brush after every meal with a soft-bristled toothbrush.
- Clean around brackets and under wires carefully.
- Floss daily using a floss threader or special orthodontic floss, use an interdental brush or water flosser for easier cleaning.

4. Braces Care & What to Avoid
- Wear any elastics (rubber bands) or appliances as directed.
- If a bracket or wire comes loose or pokes, make an appointment to stick it back
​
5. Follow-up appointments
- Regular adjustment visits are crucial, usually 1month
- Please contact us if you feels a wire or bracket comes loose and is causing injury or you experience severe pain or swelling.
